Welcome to our 2026 Fundraising event Vaccine Initiative

Nigeria has one of the world's highest under-five mortality rates, recently estimated at 104.9 to 115 deaths per 1,000 live births as of early 2026. Often cited as the highest or second-highest globally, this high rate means roughly 1 in 8 or 1 in 9 Nigerian children may not reach their fifth birthday.

Approximately 41% of deaths among Nigerian children under five are estimated to be vaccine-preventable.

Thanks to your generosity, Equal As One can bring a robust vaccine program to Kindred Clinic. Read about the much-needed vaccines below, and click on the photos to donate any way you wish.

Nigeria carries the world's heaviest malaria burden, accounting for 31% of global malaria deaths. The newly available malaria vaccine has been long-awaited, and is finally here. It is expected to drastically reduce the nearly 200,000 annual malaria deaths in Nigeria. Click on the photo to donate for the cost of a malaria vaccine.

The PCV vaccine targets streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, the leading cause of pneumonia and meningitis, which are top contributors to Nigerian infant deaths. Studies show that vaccinating children with PCV also decreases these infections in the elderly simply by reducing spread. Click on the photo to donate for the cost of a PCV vaccine.

The good news: Nigeria was finally declared polio-free in August of 2020.
